A very exciting day at STC last Friday morning with Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, local Queensland Senators Chris Ketter and Anthony Chisholm along with other VIP’s attending a PPTEU and NFIA industry meeting to discuss inspect, test and servicing issues (in light of the recent tragic fire in England). Discussion was especially focused on growing examples of unlicensed and unqualified people doing Fire Protection work in Queensland as well as the push by some less reputable industry bodies to water down the training requirements of Fire Protection Tradesmen.
Bill Shorten, National and State PPTEU Secretaries Earl Setches and Gary O’Halloran, as well as NFIA President Andrew Hickman addressed the gathering of employers, service fitters, College apprentices and staff. Mr Shorten and VIPs then toured the STC Training Centre and spoke with our 1st and 4th year apprentices, overall a very memorable day.
